2023 Royal Canadian Mint Soaring Eagle 1.25-oz Silver is a silver bullion coin featuring the bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus), Canada’s largest bird of prey and the only eagle species exclusive to North America. As an apex predator with no natural enemies, the bald eagle has long symbolized vision, power, and stoicism, and adults can reach wingspans of more than 2 meters, stand about 1 meter tall, and weigh up to roughly 7 kilograms. The obverse of the coin features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt, along with a special marking that includes four pearls representing the four effigies that have appeared on Canadian coinage and a double date honoring her reign. The reverse showcases the soaring eagle design struck in high-purity .9999 fine silver, backed by the Royal Canadian Mint’s reputation for precision and security.

The government of Canada guarantees the coin’s silver purity, weight, and legal tender value, which supports confidence in its underlying metal content. Augusta’s retail price, however, includes an additional amount above the coin’s melt value that Augusta alone determines based on factors it deems important, so what you pay may move differently than the spot price of silver and may not match what other dealers charge for similar Royal Canadian Mint eagle coins. If you later sell to a buyer who values the coin only for its melt content and does not recognize Augusta’s added premium, you could receive significantly less than your original purchase price, and Augusta cannot guarantee it will buy back this coin or that another retailer will purchase it.

2023 Royal Canadian Mint 1.25oz Silver Soaring Eagle FAQs

Is the 2023 1.25-oz Royal Canadian Mint Silver Soaring Eagle IRA-eligible?
Yes, this coin meets IRS purity standards and is eligible for inclusion in a self-directed IRA.
How can I be sure my 2023 1.25-oz Royal Canadian Mint Silver Soaring Eagle coins are authentic?
Augusta sources directly from trusted outlets and mints and provides official confirmation of your purchase. In addition, your metals are audited and insured by the depository.
How does the 1.25-oz Soaring Eagle compare to a 0.5-oz Royal Canadian Mint Eagle?
Both carry the same Canadian government backing and .9999 fine silver standard, but the 1.25-oz format concentrates more silver into a single coin, while the 0.5-oz size offers finer control for smaller purchases. Investors generally choose based on how they want to size individual positions rather than any difference in mint quality.
Can I take physical delivery of my 2023 1.25-oz Royal Canadian Mint Silver Soaring Eagle coins?
Physical delivery is available for cash purchases, but IRA holdings must remain in a secure depository.
What does "melt value" actually mean for this coin?
Melt value is the coin's silver content multiplied by the current spot price of silver. The price Augusta charges starts at that figure and adds an amount above it, which is the basis for the Pricing & Resale Disclosure above.
Why might a lower-mintage coin like this behave differently from a generic silver bar at resale?
High-mintage commodity products such as generic bars are often bought and sold across a broad open market, where dealer bids can be influenced by outside supply and inventory pressure. Lower-mintage, mint-issued coins like the Soaring Eagle participate in a more dealer-familiar, retirement-focused secondary market, where recurring customer activity and dealer recognition of the series play a larger role over time.
Will my IRA custodian statement show the same value I'd actually receive in a buyback?
Custodian statements typically report value based on melt or spot pricing for administrative and IRS purposes, while a real-world buyback price is determined separately, at the time you choose to sell. The two figures reflect different things — one is a reporting value, the other is an actual market transaction.
