Austrian Philharmonic 1-oz Silver is a 1-ounce .999 fine silver coin produced by the Austrian Mint since 1989 and recognized worldwide for its cultural theme and government backing. The obverse features a cluster of orchestral instruments — four violins, a Vienna horn, cello, bassoon, and harp — beneath the orchestra name “WIENER PHILHARMONIKER,” while the reverse shows the great organ in Vienna’s Golden Concert Hall (Musikverein), with inscriptions for weight, “Feinsilber,” date, face value in Euros, and “REPUBLIK OSTERREICH.”

Each coin is minted by Austrian Mint AG, part of the Austrian National Bank, which guarantees the coin’s weight, purity, and Euro-denominated face value. Augusta prices this coin at melt value plus an Augusta-set premium — see Pricing & Resale Disclosure below for full details.

FAQs about Austrian Philharmonic 1-oz Silver

Is Austrian Philharmonic 1-oz Silver eligible for a precious metals IRA?
Yes. The Philharmonic meets IRS purity and issuer requirements and is widely accepted by custodians for self-directed precious metals IRAs.
How does the Philharmonic compare to coins like the Maple Leaf or American Eagle for international recognition?
The Philharmonic is one of the best-known silver coins in Europe and frequently the preferred sovereign silver coin for investors and dealers outside North America. Buyers focused primarily on U.S. dealer networks may find Eagles or Maple Leafs more immediately familiar, while those with European exposure or preferences often gravitate toward the Philharmonic.
How is the price of Austrian Philharmonic 1-oz Silver determined?
The baseline for value is the coin’s melt value, which is the global silver spot price multiplied by its one ounce of silver content. Augusta then adds an additional amount above melt that it solely determines, which can cause the coin’s price to move differently than melt value and differently from prices other dealers may charge.
What does "melt value" mean for this coin?
Melt value is the coin's silver content multiplied by the current spot price of silver. Augusta's price starts at that figure and adds an amount above it based on factors it considers important, including the coin's recognition and Euro-denominated backing.
