OverviewA small number of proof silver American Eagles are struck each year for collectors, and they are often sold out soon after issue.
DesignThe United States Mint copied obverse (front) design of the silver American Eagle coin from the Walking Liberty silver half-dollar, often considered America’s most beautiful silver coin. Lady Liberty is cloaked in the American flag, carrying laurel and oak branches, walking toward a new day. “IN GOD WE TRUST” is right of her calf. The coin’s reverse was designed by John Mercanti and shows the Great Seal of the United States. An inverse pyramid of 13 stars floats above the eagle’s head, each star representing one of the original 13 colonies. “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA ‘ 1 OZ. FINE SILVER ~ ONE DOLLAR” encircles the eagle.
MintingProof silver American Eagles coins are made with a more-detailed minting process. Special dies are used on the coin blanks, which are fed manually into the presses and struck multiple times to produce detailed coin images that look softly frosted above a mirror-like background. Each proof American Eagle comes in a beautiful, dark blue velvet presentation case with an official United States Mint Certificate of Authority.
Quality GuaranteeSilver bullion coins from the United States Mint are the only official silver bullion coins whose weight, content and purity are guaranteed by the United States Government, making them investors’ top choice worldwide.
Individual Retirement AccountsProof American Eagles (gold and silver) are the only collectible coins allowed in U.S. Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs).
This is a premium coin, meaning the coin’s price includes a premium above the melt value of the precious metal it contains, which includes Augusta’s margin. This premium is solely determined and controlled by Augusta, based on factors Augusta deems valuable in determining and controlling such premium. Other retailers may not recognize the premium value that Augusta recognizes for this premium coin and may only be willing to pay as little as the melt value for this coin (the value of the precious metal that the coin contains). If you sell this coin to a retailer that does not recognize the premium value assessed by Augusta at the time of sale, then such sale may result in significant losses. Augusta cannot guarantee that it will buyback any item it sells and cannot guarantee another retailer will purchase this premium coin.
